This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Vice President, Midwest Geomatics Regional Manager to join and grow our geomatics team across the Midwest Region based in our Minneapolis, Minnesota office. 

In this role, you will provide leadership and expertise for a geomatics team executing projects in a variety of sectors such as transportation, energy, water, environment, and buildings. Responsibilities include building our business and teams with client engagement, business development, managing and providing support on projects with geospatial and surveying services including an emphasis on aerial/UAS mapping, terrestrial scanning, mobile mapping, conventional land surveying, and 3D modeling/BIM. Your Impact

  • Leadership & Team Management:
    • Serve as Midwest Geomatics Regional Manager and oversee the regional Geomatics team.
    • Build and manage the Midwest Region Geomatics team, including core operations in Minnesota.
    • Oversee resource management: recruitment, training, career development, coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and performance management.
    • Demonstrate leadership and maintain clear and open communication between field, office, and clients.
    • Ensure adherence to WSP and client-specific safety guidelines; manage safety documentation and compliance.
    • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Strategic Planning & Operations:
    • Develop and implement strategic business plan for the Midwest Region Geomatics team.
    • Prepare annual operating budgets and manage financial performance.
    • Select and coordinate with MBE/SBE/DBE firms to meet participation goals on applicable projects.
    • Prepare and manage subconsultant agreements and scopes of work. 
    • Ensure subconsultant work meets project goals related to quality, budget, and schedule.
    • Report on status of KPIs, workload, vehicles, survey equipment, and safety equipment.
  • Business Development & Client Relations:
    • Lead business development efforts to identify new markets and strategic opportunities.
    • Cultivate client relationships and partnerships.
    • Participate in client meetings, events, and professional associations.
    • Market geospatial and surveying capabilities to clients and partners.
    • Prepare proposals, scopes, and fee estimates for projects.
    • Support strategic pursuits and initiatives in other regions as needed.
  • Project & Technical Oversight:
    • Review, negotiate, and manage contracts for geospatial/surveying services. 
    • Conduct project scoping and kick-off meetings.
    • Lead and manage multi-discipline projects across the Midwest, supporting other regions or national programs when needed.
    • Oversee the technical delivery of geospatial/surveying activities such as conventional surveys, aerial/UAS mapping, terrestrial scanning, mobile mapping, 3D modeling/BIM, etc.
    • Conduct Quality Control reviews of project deliverables including digital models, mapping, etc.
    • Work collaboratively with engineers, scientists, technicians, and project control staff on tasks.
    • Prepare and review survey reports and documentation.
    • Ensure projects meet regulatory, safety, and technical standards.
    •  Manage invoicing and billing of services to clients.
  • Standards, Training & Innovation:
    • Disseminate and promote standards, protocols, and best practices in project execution.
    • Lead staff training and skills development initiatives.
    • Stay current with survey industry practices, regulations, technologies, and methodologies.
    • Champion R&D initiatives relevant to geospatial/surveying in the Midwest.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

 

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in a relevant discipline will be required.
  • 12+ years of post-education experience in geospatial, surveying, or AEC-related roles. 
  • Professional Surveyor License in Minnesota, additional states preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of land surveying and mapping practices, procedures, and operations (field and office).
  • Ability to work independently, and collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
  • Competent self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. 
  • Experienced with project management, preparation of work plans, maintaining schedules and budgets, managing field and office resources, preparing and reviewing base maps and other deliverables, working with clients and quality control.
  • Proven team leadership, people management, team building, and collaborations skills, including a proven track record for meeting established project and business goals.
  • Experienced with client management and business development of geomatics services to public and private clients. 
  • Ability to innovate and re-think the conventional approach to client and employee engagement.
  • Strong business acumen with an aptitude for improving processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening, including a valid Driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Able to work occasional overtime as required per project.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on client or project-specific requirements.
     

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Certified Federal Surveyor (CFedS)
  • GIS Professional (GISP) Certification
  • Experience with government contracting, including FAR-based procurements.
  • Previous leadership of business units with P&L responsibility.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, business development, and R&D/innovation initiatives within a geospatial or engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with geospatial data analytics, digital twins, and emerging technology integration.
  • Demonstrated success in growing business units.

Expected Salary: $130,300.00 - $240,800.00

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
